'With my work I like to include a human element and a bit of humour. I've based my ideas around a watery theme because Scarborough is a seaside town, and I've shown the figures playing with fish and shells like those in the museum's collection. The natural light in the conservatory is an ideal place for changing reflections so I thought of making a mosaic out of CDs.
My initial ideas for this sculpture were inspired by Makaton sign language. Most of the pupils at Spring Head School use Makaton; it's good to watch, easy to understand and a very exspressive form of communication, which to me is what the senses are all about.' |
